The genesis of the San Jose Senior Sharks Hockey Club was originally organized in 1977 and operated out of the San Francisco Bay Area North Bay under various names (Mariners, Labatt's Blues-Canada) until the naming of the National Hockey League San Jose Sharks on May 9, 1990. At that time, the Kemphanen Ijshockey California club was amalgamated and the San Jose Senior Sharks Hockey Club was inaugurated.
The club secured its original sponsorship of complete kits of home and away uniforms due to the generosity of the original San Jose Sharks chairman and owner George Gund III. In fact the original jerseys are still in use to this day.
The club has won numerous awards and championships including several championships in each of the following; the Northern California-Nevada Old Timers Hockey League, Hockey North America-Advanced Division, Hockey North America Western US Champions, several Sharks Ice at San Jose divisions and multiple gold medal winners of the Hollyburn British Columbia Easter Tournament.
However the principal raison d'être is for our players to participate in "friendly" competition and to experience the camaraderie of often very long standing. The underlying philosophy of the club is to enable we "senior" players to have a go at the teams often having very much younger players.
Our current team's average age is; oh well, we're still calculating it, so stay tuned.
